Community Projects

Community Projects

Community outreach & empowerment are essential. There are an abundance of families lacking school fees, food, income resources and basic needs. Some community homes desperately need improvement; local schools have no proper toilets, communities have no access to clean water and the roads make certain areas unreachable during rainy seasons. We are passionate about fulfilling some of those needs, as we live alongside these communities. And we endeavour into these projects, while teaching new skills to the Apprentices that participate in our ongoing programs.

Community is the foundation of teamwork and progress is the enemy to despair. We believe that giving back to the community is an essential part of building integrity and commitment, within individuals. We have integrated "community projects" into the DS vocational training programs to lead the way for young people to use their skills, talents, and time — to benefit themselves and also move their communities towards safety & success.

This teaching model allows students to use their vocational skills in their home villages, gain practical experience, a good reputation and to evolve their methods in practical ways. We don't want our apprentices to live in a "training bubble." We want to see them thrive and help the communities around them. We encounter a plethora of legitimate needs, daily; clean water, housing, toilets, school expansions, road improvements, food & farming assistance, and clothes and blankets— just to name a few. Identifying these needs, and funding meaningful projects that can help to meet them, is a beautiful part of how we have merged our work and goals, with a commitment to community. We are excited to continue engaging our Apprentices, Visiting Teams, Uganda & American Staff & Volunteers into these projects, as they are needed and as funding provides. It is a central part of who we are, as an organization.
