Education, Training & Projects in Uganda
Vanilla, Farming & Aquaponics
Our Farming Projects in Uganda, host over 10 acres of demonstration gardens and production farming, Some of these include; Vanilla Beans, Coffee, Bananas, Greens, Ground Nuts, Passion Fruit, Bee’s & Honey, Fruit, herbs & local medicinal plants, and an expansive variety of other vegetables. Our garden nursery even produces the areas indigenous trees, that we plant for free— as we do our part to replenish the land of its original resources. We create our own composts, insecticides and fertilizers, while teaching our Apprentices and the community, how to most efficiently use the land and the natural resources available to them. We offer selling options at fair market value, and direction— for higher value crops and we lead by example, as we grow and learn — together, in community.
Many of our crops are grown in dirt… but some are also produced within our Aquaponics System (Fish Farm). After 10 years of building Aquaponic Systems, in many regions of the world — we continue to expand the use of these cyclic, symbiotic, self-contained systems and to explore the most efficient ways to utilize Aquaponics, to combat nutritional shortages and economic deficits..
With our Add-Value approach to farming projects, we will continue to utilize local crop rotations and other natural methods, to replenish the land naturally and to promote the healthiest yields — as it provides food for the people that live on it.
Skills Training-Apprenticeship
We believe that improving the quaity of Tradesman in Uganda, will increase economic growth and community sustainability. Our Construction Apprenticeship Program promotes small business start ups, quality business management, and helps to create more more jobs creators in rural areas. We are building stronger communities, through career and personal mentorship and through our vocations training programs.
Our vocational Apprenticeship programs are structured to promote vocational training, while also making improvements to the surrounding communities.
Through our ongoing partnership with Hear The Cry since 2011, we were connected to NFL Wide Receiver, Brandin Cooks. Since 2019, that partnership has produced 4 brand new homes, specifically built for single mothers, living in Uganda,
These intensive projects provide hands-on opportunities to teach our apprentices about construction management & land development, while applying the many different trades and construction techniques needed to grow their skills.
The Primary School
In September of 2019, Develop Sustainability said “Yes” to a partnership with a small group of local leaders, to manage the local Bethany Primary School. The school was going to close, due to funding and management deficits, and we decided to step in. open in the rural DS area. Since that time we have battled Covid-19, country-wide road and internet shutdowns for Covid & Ebola outbreaks, major national job loss, cost of living increases of incredible proportions and through ALL OF THAT… we have led the school to academic, athletic and philosophically exceed! We are slowly integrating U.S.A. based relevant curriculum and training our teachers and staff to approach teaching and learning in new ways! We are so excited to be a part of these foundational years, for the young people in our community.
Develop Sustainability provides FREE School Supplies, School Uniforms, Tuition, basic food supplies and other school & family needs— to over 100 students from our local area. Many of these students attend Secondary schools, which is not financially achievable for most of our families, without assistance or full support. Many of our students are truly orphaned, into a system that leaves them unassisted they transition from childhood dependance, into adult independence.
Our Education Support and Scholarship Programs require a large percentage of our overall funds, each year— but we believe in Education and will continue to empower the nest generations of Uganda to think an do life, in new and foundational ways!
This is a role that we take seriously and we are very proud of what the school has achieved! We keep moving forward with excitement, as our school. has grown from 200 students, to almost 500. We are excited to continue to provide; advanced teacher trainings, supplemental curriculum, classroom support, improve student interactions in the learning process. & community confidence!
Our Vision
We exist, to provide vocation options and life opportunities to those with little access to resources.
Our goal is to provide training & transitional pathways for young people and to better equip communities & families— to take their own steps towards success and stability.
