Bethany Christian Primary School
Bethany Christian Primary School
At the end of 2019, we partnered with a local primary school in Busoke Village, Mubanda Parish in Uganda. Since 2014, Develop Sustainability founders had assisted the school with teaching supplies, teacher training, curriculum additions and basic structural maintenance and were providing Scholarships for school fee support to local families and children, as a part of our Community and Family Outreach Program.
In 2019, we were informed that the primary school would have to close its doors… so later that year, we stepped into a more active school administrative roles — taking on shared ownership of the school business and taking 2 seats on the school board, to create a stronger school management team. Education access for these children was too important to lose, and as an organization we decided to help meet this community need. To date, we are enjoying the challenges and triumphs of advising and working within the pivoting transitions of the Ugandan Education System. We are committed to providing quality education to students, engaging teachers & educators to grow and thrive,`and to creating diverse education opportunities that enhance the quality of students and the community.
Education is our community’s future. Without educated change, how can we learn to correct the mistakes in our past and move forward as responsible citizens?
We are currently utilizing the previous school buildings and property, located in Bethany Village. We continue to host classes for Nursery-age to Primary 7, where some students complete UNEB testing to go on to their respective Secondary and University Educations. We have increased student numbers from 230 students in 2018, to currently over 520 students. We continue to discern the different ways that we can grow the community through our experience managing Bethany Primary School, and we are actively seeking funding for the purchase of new land to build an updated and larger school facility. We are excited to create a new space where children thrive and can find excitement, safety and purpose on their educational journeys.
Develop Sustainability integrates alternative curriculums and are working to create a space for a Public Library. We partner with schools and individual teachers in the U.S.A., to provide teaching tools and classroom support systems and training to our teachers. We want to continue to introduce & demonstrate new ways for teachers to inspire. We invite our community of supporters, to partner in meeting the financial and academic needs of the school and to participate with Develop Sustainability, to improve primary education opportunities in rural Uganda.
